iPhone Price Drop in China: Apple Offers Up to 2,300 Yuan Off
Key Highlights
In a strategic move to bolster its position in the highly competitive Chinese smartphone market, Apple has announced significant price cuts on select iPhone models. As per a Reuters report, the discounts, which run from May 20 to May 28, are available on Apple’s official Tmall site and offer savings of up to 2,300 yuan ($318).
Apple’s latest discount campaign is notably more substantial than its previous effort in February. The highest discount in February was 1,150 yuan, whereas the current campaign doubles that amount. The steepest discount applies to the 1TB iPhone 15 Pro Max model, with other models also seeing significant price cuts. For example, the 128 GB base iPhone 15 model is discounted by 1,400 yuan.
Model | Discount (Yuan) | Discount (INR) |
---|---|---|
iPhone 15 Pro Max 1TB | 2,300 | 27,002 |
iPhone 15 128GB | 1,400 | 16,436 |
This aggressive discounting comes as Apple faces increasing competition from local rivals such as Huawei. Last month, Huawei launched its new series of high-end smartphones, the Pura 70, following the launch of the Mate 60 in August 2023. These new releases have intensified the competition in the premium smartphone segment, prompting Apple to take decisive action.
Apple’s discounting strategy appears to be effective. The company saw a 12% increase in shipments in China in March, according to data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT). This was a significant improvement from the first two months of 2024, during which Apple experienced a 37% slump in sales.
