China’s new-car sales rose in April from a year earlier on brisk sales of EVs and other so-called “new energy vehicles.”

The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers says 2.35 million vehicles rolled off dealers’ lots last month. That’s up 9.3 percent.

New-energy vehicles rose 33.5 percent to account for more than one-third of all units.

Plug-in hybrids increased 95 percent, and EVs 11 percent.

As for exports, the country shipped 504,000 vehicles in April. That’s up 34 percent from a year earlier.
The pace significantly exceeds that of last year when China became the world’s biggest auto exporter.

But officials in Western countries suspect that the Chinese cars sell for unfairly low prices in overseas markets due to overproduction, among other reasons.
