China’s Fu Xiaofang beat Britain’s Kelly Fisher 9-1 to win the women’s championship at the 2018 World 9-Ball China Open which concluded at Pudong’s Tangzhen County yesterday.
Fu and Kelly were the women champions of the tournament in 2011 and 2012, respectively. The men’s title went to Ko Pin-yi, representing Chinese Taipei, who beat another Briton Jayson Shaw 11-9 in the final. China’s “9-ball queen” Pan Xiaoting failed to make it to the semifinals after a 4-9 quarterfinal defeat to South Korea’s Kim Ga-young on Saturday.
Coming into its 10th year, the competition attracted 64 male and 48 female players from home and abroad. Tangzhen County organized a series of promotional activities, including bringing star players to schools to popularize the cue sport among the younger generation.
