The Chinese Communist Party’s anti-graft watchdog says the country’s farm minister is under investigation for suspected violations of discipline and law.
The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection announced on Saturday that Tang Renjian is being probed. It gave no further details. The news was immediately reported by multiple Chinese media outlets.
Tang assumed the post in 2020. He has long been involved in agricultural administration. On Wednesday, he gave a speech at a conference in the inland province of Shaanxi. That was his most recent public appearance.
Since Chinese President Xi Jinping was inaugurated for his third term at the party convention in 2022, two Cabinet ministers have been fired — foreign minister Qin Gang and defense minister Li Shangfu.
Xi and the party leadership are due to convene the party’s third plenary session in July. Observers are waiting to see if there will be personnel changes in the party and the government.
